Cigarette burns rips and stains can ruin the look of your carpet and replacing it can be costly.
Can you replace a patch of carpet.
Step 1 attach the tack strip.
Carpet patching is a simple system of carefully cutting out the damaged area and replacing it with a patch of donor carpet of the same size.
If those fraying discoloring factors have concentrated in one particular section of your carpet you can patch the installation rather than replace the entire thing.
Measure the damaged area of the carpeting.
Apply some carpet adhesive onto the patch requiring floor.
Determine the size of the carpet to be cut out and whether you want to cut a rectangular or circular replacement patch to fill the area in.
Because the donor area is filled in either with a piece of remnant carpet or is left unrepaired carpet patching is considered to be imperfect but a net overall improvement.
Properly planned and executed.
As an extra step you may cut out a piece of thick fabric an inch larger that the patch on all sides lift the hole s edges and glue it onto the main carpet as the base for the patch.
If the patch is to be applied against a wall and the room has baseboard molding your two options are.
A remove the baseboard and reinstall it after laying down the carpet patch or b leave the baseboard in place and install the tack strip 1 4 away from the baseboard as described in the next step.
If you re using carpet tape stick it onto the base floor as well.
