Lay out the carpet pad perpendicular to the direction you plan to install the carpet image 1 and staple it near the tackless strips with a staple hammer image 2.

Step 5 staple any pad seams. Consider carpet pile direction when seaming. Carpet does have a direction usually indicated on the carpet backing. Use a staple hammer tacker to fasten the carpet pad against the edge of the tack strip.

Stretch the padding so that the pieces are butted tightly. The manufacturer recommends how to orient the tiles. Provide an appropriate surface upon which to install carpet including confirmation of concrete moisture and alkali conditions cleanliness surface quality and floor levelness. Any damage from insects water or other problems should be repaired prior to carpet installation.

Obviously if your carpet has a pattern seaming two pieces requires careful attention to matching the pattern between adjoining pieces. Essentially you can either rotate tiles or offset them to create patterns. Staple the seam of the pad alternating staples so that they aren t beside one another. Keep in mind that your new floor coverings need to be installed over a structurally sound subfloor.

Any two carpet tiles facing in different directions will appear to be slightly different colors. Mix carpet tiles from different packs to account for dye lot variations. Install carpet pad so that any seams will be at right angles to those in the carpet. On stairways the pile should sweep down.

Reposition your body to examine the carpet in another direction. After the old flooring and carpet cushion have been pulled up vacuum the subfloor before the new carpet is installed to minimize dirt and dust. Generally seams should run in the same direction as most foot traffic. Extra hidden carpet should be folded back at the top and bottom of stairs so that as the edges of the tread are worn the carpet can be moved to hide the wear.

But even for non patterned carpeting you can detect the direction of the carpet s pile by looking at it from different directions in strong light. Due to the nature of the carpet this is the direction it should be installed whether on the floor or stairs. A carpeted surface should be. The carpet layer has finished and at first glance it looks great.

The installation options for square carpet tiles are fairly limited but offer the opportunity to create patterns and designs that can t be achieved with broadloom carpet. Provide drawings with the approved location of seams edge moldings carpet direction and accessories adhesives cushion etc. Ideally you would install carpet on stairs as if the roll were rolling down the stairs. Tape neighboring pieces together with 2 to 3 inch masking tape or as directed by the manufacturer.
